Beat the heat – recipe for dog safety this summer

With an early start to summer, we are urging pet owners to be extra vigilant in ensuring your pets access to clean, cool water and lots of it!

AWLQ Vet Doctor Theresia Andersen recommends that owners…

Avoid
– Running, cycling or other strenuous activity with your dog during the hottest parts of the day
– Never leave your pets in the car
– Avoid prolonged use of Thundershirts during hot periods as they can trap heat causing your pet to overheat

Do
– Make sure your dogs and cats have access to shade and plenty of cool, clean water
– Provide water pools for your dog to wade in
– Ensure artic breeds and those with issues breathing normally have air-conditioning

AWLQ Pupsicle recipe:
Ingredients
– 1/3 cup dry dog food
– A couple of dog treats (biscuit treats)
– 1 tbsp. wet food
– Water

Method
– Fold in above ingredients and add water to a ‘mush’ consistency
– Place in plastic bowl to half way and freeze
– Once hard top up with water and refreeze
– Remove frozen Pupsicle from plastic container into safe dog bowl

Your Pupsicle is ready!

The five worst design trends of 2016

As we look back over 2016 there are undoubtedly things we can all find to be thankful for. But it would be remiss of us to deny or forget that this year carried with it many heinous burdens that we’d all be glad to never lay eyes on again.

I’m speaking not just of politics and crushing world events, but things closer to home, as well. Like, literally in our homes. And if we don’t at least reflect on some of the worst interior trends of the past 11 months, we may find ourselves repeating them.
